Green light for $3.8m airport project
27 February 2007

A $3.8 million Bahrain airport expansion was yesterday given the go-ahead. The project is being carried out jointly between Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) and Bahrain Duty Free.

A ceremony was yesterday held to announce the start of work on the project. Present were Airport director and civil aviation representative Mohammed Thamer Al Kaabi, BAS chief executive officer Graham Keddie and Duty Free director-general Maurice Burke.

The scheme includes shops and fast-food outlets of internation standards at the departure lounge. "Such projects upgrade services and provides a comfortable atmosphere for passengers, thus consolidating Bahrain airport's world status", Mr Kaabi said.

The area between gates 11 and 14 will be further expanded and redesigned, with new floor, ceiling and lighting.
