Bahrain International Airport, the country's main gateway for visitors, must upgrade services to keep pace with fast growing developments in the kingdom - an important tourism and economic destination, Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa said yesterday.
He directed airport officials to take all measures to ease visitors' arrival and departure procedures, stressing the importance of preserving the airport's reputation by maintaining its top-class services.
The Premier urged the exploitation of modern technology to enhance the airport's ability to draw further international airlines.
The Premier made his remarks yesterday while visiting the airport. He toured it and listened to an account by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and the officials of civil aviation affairs, customs and passports and airport security staff on the various services offered to passengers and air companies.
The Prime Minister also met passengers and explored their viewpoints regarding available services, expressing delight to notice their satisfaction.
Shaikh Khalifa also listened to a briefing on arrangements made for Formula One races and called for co-ordination of all government bodies' efforts to highlight the international sport event in a way that reinforces the kingdom's position on the sport and economic world map.
