Air Show Deal
16 July 2008

The Kingdom of Bahrain will host a prestigious international air show in 2010, it was revealed last night. An agreement to this effect was signed yesterday by Civil Aviation Undersecretary Capt Abdulrahman Al Gaoud and Farnborough International Airshow managing director Trevor Sidebottom.

The show is expected to attract major international companies, specialised in military and civil aviation and support services.

Around 40,000 visitors from all over the world are also expected to visit the show.

Capt Al Gaoud said the agreement was the result of the wise policy of His Majesty King Hamad and his sagacious government that were behind the prevalent political, commercial and economic openness in the kingdom.

Bahrain enjoys a strategic position, huge potential, equipment and qualified national professionals which entitle it to excel in organising such big international events, he said.

"Bahrain International Airport's capability has been tremendously upgraded and the aviation business boosted, coupled with a similar boost in the Gulf region and the Middle East in general, the fact that made us think of hosting such an air show," he explained.

He said the event would bring together buyers and suppliers and feature static and flying displays.

This agreement coincides with the air industry trade event's 60th anniversary and the centenary of the first powered flight in England by Samuel Cody in 1908, Capt Al Gaoud noted.
