Passengers Pick up Lane at Bahrain International Airport Eases Congestion
Parking capacity increased to 1050 cars
11 July 2010

Bahrain Airport Company announced today that the new passenger pick up lane opened at Bahrain International Airport’s Arrivals area, is easing congestion and work on expanding the main car park is almost complete as part of its strategy to deliver enhanced facilities and services for passengers and airport visitors.

The new lane running parallel to the taxi and services lanes operates similar to the Departures drop off lane, where arriving passengers can be instantly picked up without the need to park the vehicle. Airport users will be encouraged to use the new lane which will save time rather than now incur charges on entering the car park. This frees up considerable car parking space for those who need to use the airport facilities.

Furthermore, work to expand the main car park’s capacity by adding 150 parking slots, to take the total tally to 1050 has been completed. This project was supervised by Bahrain Airport Company’s Engineering and Maintenance Department who worked closely with car park operators, Bahrain Car Park Company.

“With the summer holidays, Bahrain International Airport is witnessing increased traffic and record passengers, so to make it easier for passenger pick up and to have sufficient parking spaces, we felt the pickup lane and the car park expansion would be an ideal solution. We have also designated parking spaces for drivers with special needs,” commented Director of Airport Operations, Mohammed Thamir Al Kaabi.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ministry of Interior for their support in providing traffic wardens to keep vehicle movement flowing, ensuring the lane is not used for parking. Furthermore, we are finalizing plans to change the car park structure to cater to passengers who need long term and short term parking facilities,” he continued.
