Departure fees invested in developing Bahrain International Airport
28 October 2010
Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) has pledged to utilize extra revenue generated from a revision of airport departure fees in developing Bahrain International Airport (BIA) for the benefit of its clients, the air carriers and their passengers.
As per Ministerial order (No.1 for 2010) issued by the government, airport passenger departure fees have been revised to BD5 per passenger and will come into effect from the 19th of January 2011.
“Our fees have not changed for over 22 years, and even after the revision, they will remain lower than most of our regional peers like Dubai and Abu Dhabi’s’ airports that charge BD7.5,” commented BAC CEO, Gordon Dewar. “This revision will make a big contribution to our revenue streams, and is a key step in transforming Bahrain International Airport as not only a financially independent and sustainable entity, but one that contributes directly to the nation’s GDP.”
“Most importantly, we will be investing funds raised directly into improving the facilities, developing the infrastructure and expanding the capabilities of BIA, providing our clients and their passengers with a better quality of services and facilities, thereby enhancing their experience at BIA,” he continued. “This development will ultimately establish an ideal platform for our clients to grow their business here at BIA and like any partnership; airline success will bring success to the Airport.”
