The smooth operations of Bahrain International Airport, despite heightened Formula One passenger traffic, has been attributed to the cooperation of Bahrain Airport Company's partners including the Civil Aviation Affairs, Bahrain Airport Services and Ministry of Interior (Police, Immigration and Customs).
Mr. Mohamed Thamir Al Kaabi, Airport Director explains, “We created 4 committees – A Cargo Committee, a Transportation Committee, an Airside Services Committee and a Terminal Operations Committee. This committee system has been implemented since 2004, and members are extremely familiar with the Grand Prix arrangements at the airport due to extensive practice and knowledge.”
The Cargo Committee was the committee in charge of handling arrival and departure cargo – working closely with Bahrain Airport Services and Airport Security. The cargo for Formula One included the actual Formula One cars, as well as logistics cargos which have come in from different parts of the world.
The Transportation Committee was responsible for arranging transportation for the Formula One passengers from the airport, to the Bahrain International Circuit to hotels. This committee worked closely with the Bahrain International Circuit, and key transport service provider – Bahrain Limo. While the Airside Services Committee was responsible for freeing up aircraft parking spaces for 35 private jets within Bahrain International Airport. This committee worked closely with Bexair, BAFCO, Bahrain Airport Services and the Ministry of Interior.
Finally, the Terminal Operations Committee executed all measures to ensure smooth terminal processing for all arriving and departing passengers, despite the spike in passenger traffic. This committee also worked closely with Bahrain Airport Company’s Meet and Assist services to ensure more peace of mind for passengers. Arrangements were also made to expedite baggage delivery for all flights to ensure a smooth transition of passengers.
“Bahrain Airport Company is proud that the collective efforts of its partners have performed their services with dedication and pride,” Dr. Osama Al Ali, CEO of Bahrain Airport Company said. “This has proven successful with operations running at optimum levels despite higher traffic. These committees have worked in close coordination with all stakeholders, and have exercised control in accordance with a very sound strategic plan.”
“The combined efforts of all parties involved have enabled a great demonstration of operational know-how – a notable first-step to creating a world class global aviation hub.” Dr. Osama concluded.
